This cannot end well

The kids across the street now have baby ducklings. They were begging me to pet them this morning as we were leaving the house. I begged off saying I needed to get to work. I did not want to spend 2 hours commuting with duck on my hands. They tried to tell me the ducks were clean because they got them at the flea market.

My only hope is that they plan to raise them as food. There is no way these particular children can be responsible bird owners. Not to mention the fact that you cannot keep ducks (past the duckling stage) in Baltimore without a permit and proper setup. I know this because I've actually read the rules on farm animals multiple times. I have an interest in urban chickens.

Anyway... Food would be the best outcome, really, but Matt reminded me that the little girl, the same one who once tried to convince me her mom was "GONE FOREVER" and that I would have to step in and raise her (her mom was next door), would not take kindly to eating her pet. True. Very true. The other thing they might attempt is to release them in the park. I don't think that's an especially good idea, but I like it slightly better than thinking they will either die from neglect, or live forever in my neighbor's house/yard.

So duck death watch begins now. Anybody want to wager how much longer these fluffy little babies will be alive?
