Working on the list
In January I posted my "House List" and I'm actually making some progress on it. The last post took care of part of #8, the garden. This weekend I ordered curtains for the front window (#6) and last week I had a cabinet maker out to give me an estimate on our proposed built-ins (#4).
The built-ins will be expensive, but due to an unexpected inheritance from my Granni, we are going to try to make it happen this year. Inheritances are an emotional thing... how can I use it to make sure it goes to something positive and not to just bills, so that her last act of kindness towards me is remembered and would be something that she would have liked? This project seems to fit. I think it would make her proud, and it is something I've wanted since the day we moved in.
Here's the sketch I got from the cabinet maker:
The area to the right of the shelves is where our tv is, which will be centered in that open space. The drawers are for DVDS, the glass front cabinets are for the electronic components, and the other 2 sets of cabinets are wood front for storing dishes, linens, household things. The shelves will be open back to show the exposed brick.
I have two more people coming out to give me estimates, just to be sure I'm making the best decision, but I hope to have this in place by June.
What do you think?
