what have I been doing?
yeah, quiet... sorry.
The wrist is mostly better. Still a bit weak, but I'm going to see a doctor on Friday who will tell me "it's mostly better... but still a bit weak... so be careful with it." or maybe "stop wasting my time! don't you know that I am a specialist! it's a freakin' sprain, woman. quit whining!" or something like that. Yeah.
I mostly just miss yoga, though Matt thinks I did it so I won't have to cook. Showed him though... I made lemon basil sorbet last weekend which consisted of merely 4 ingredients, lemons, basil, sugar and water, but took multiple appliances to assemble... juicer, salad spinner, saucepan, blender and ice cream maker... yeah, ok so the juicer and the salad spinner were for my sanity, but you try getting 2 cups of lemon juice by hand! It took 8 lemons! did I mention the wrist?
The recipe was from Sotto Sopra, but I think I MAY have misjudged the amount of basil I stuck in the blender because honestly? it tasted like pesto sorbet. Not bad really, just not quite what I was expecting. But now that I've busted out the ice cream maker for the first time since we moved here, I want to make more sorbet. And maybe this awesome blueberry frozen yogurt recipe I have somewhere. I'm just a little concerned about lemons that cost almost $2 EACH. My pesto sorbet cost me almost $16 to make! That's freakin' ridiculous. Of course, still cheaper than eating at Sotto Sopra, I supose. I think maybe I'll just use the basil in savory dishes now.
And if anybody is craving pesto, let me know... you can come pick all the basil you want. I won't supply the cheese and pine nuts though. They're expensive too!
We had a couple of impromptu patio parties last week that were lots of fun. Our patio has become the "go-to" spot for casual evenings for the frugal. Pot luck party paradise. We've been offering up what we have... a bowl of cherries, a tub of hummus, some beer... and the neighbors do too. Hot dogs, burgers, sausage and cheese, more beer... it's a collective thing. A commune without all the chores. Kind of cool.
Restaurant week is upon us. Get your reservations now. Matt and I are going to Pazo on Sunday! Of course, I realized later that they ALWAYS have a fixed price menu for 2 for about the same price... but whatever, it seemed like a good reason to go. I won't go to Pazo on the weekend... it's too "hip" for me. I feel like a tourist among the beautiful people. But on Sunday evenings it has a different feel. Less in your face glamour and "scene" and back to "oh yeah, it's just a restaurant."
Bill seems to be fully recovered. He gets his last blood test on Monday. He's back to beating everyone up and complaining about the unfairness of the closed back door. I think he's doing ok.
