My take on Three...

Very excited to have a new restaurant in our neighborhood, where Parkside used to be. We walked over last night with some friends that were staying over. It opened a week ago but this was my first chance to wander in and my first impression was "Wow, it's packed!" There were tons of people there, but it wasn't too loud, service was good, and everything was comfortable. They have repainted and the new color scheme is soothing and cool. Our friends were suitably impressed, though one did remark that it was a bit "Twilight Zone" to have a place like this in our neighborhood. Paradox is what "transitional" is all about.

The menu is extensive and varied... almost strangely so. We were all confused about the offering of Pho. Really? Here? I should try it before I knock it though. It may be the dishwasher's mother's recipe. Anyway, the main part of the menu is "small plates"... i.e. Tapas style. But the offerings were also all over the board. We ordered 2 a person so we tried the Tuna Sashimi, the Mussels, the Hummus Platter, Fried Oyster Mushrooms, Lamburger Sliders, Scallops in Proscuitto, Stuffed Mozzarrella, and Duck.

Ok, so my favorite hands down were the Lamburger sliders. I'd never had ground lamb before... I don't think it's all that common, but these little babies were lovely. Medium rare and tender, served on small sour dough buns, yum yum. I actually dreamed about them last night. The scallops were also amazing. Wrapped in proscuitto, they were perfectly delicate and tender with an amazing flavor. I also was thrilled with the tuna and the duck, though I think the tuna was the better of the two and since they are served similarly, I wouldn't get them together again. The Fried Oyster Mushrooms were surprisingly meaty, and yes, they are mushrooms, not oysters. The sauce had a curry base and went well together.

The only problem areas were just a matter of taste. The mussels were WAY too spicy. Somehow we overlooked the "scotch bonnet peppers" in the description. I love mussels, and these were cooked perfectly, but the broth was full of heat and there was just no getting away from it. I felt it for hours afterwards. I wish they offered a mussels dish without the heat because its one of our favorite "snack" foods and easy to share. The hummus platter was good, with a tapenade and a feta mix included, but the hummus itself was also quite spicy, and there wasn't enough bread. They did bring us more when we asked though. While both these may appeal to others, we were all a little shocked at the heat.

Dessert was pie from Dangerously Delicious Pies. YUM! The lemon chess was AMAZING and everyone else seemed pleased with their choices... Pecan, Apple, and Cherry Crumb. I lamented the no ice cream for the apple pie and the waiter said a few others had asked for it as well so maybe they will add it.

They are still working on their wine list, beer offerings on tap are limited, but they are among my favorites so I was pleased. There is a full bar as well.

We'll be back, probably in a few days, and probably weekly. There is a lot more on the menu to try! Glad to have Three... in our neighborhood!
